The St. Francis Brooklyn Women’s Cross-Country team is gearing up for the Northeast Conference Championships this upcoming weekend, hosted by St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
After a successful season, the team is approaching the meet with a more positive mindset compared to previous years.
On Friday Oct. 25, 2013, the ladies competed at the CCSU Invitational, knocking down one last performance before the big show this weekend. Sophomore harrier Inesli Diaz led the Terriers, running 10:29.
Diaz performance was good for 22nd place. Senior Cross-Country captain Jasmin Viera crossed the line in 11:24, followed by Rosemarie Petrizzo (11:32), Taia Thomas (11:35) and Pathwahandi Silva (12:12).
“It was a great race, I was happy with my time,” Viera said, about her performance.
This will be the last cross country championship race for Viera, building some mixed emotions as the race nears.
“I’m going to miss it a lot, the team is my family,” she said. “I would really like to come in the top 40 at conference,” Viera added.
Coach Jeremy Busch says that the team has “worked so hard, improved so much over the season, and have really come together as a team.”
This will be Coach Busch’s first cross-country championship with the team, and he has worked very hard training and getting to know his athletes, in order to have a successful season.
This weekend all the hard work will be put to the test.
“The girls are fired up to run and I’m excited to see what happens, I know they are ready,” Coach Busch said about the upcoming meet.
