We have women’s volleyball on a Wednesday night, and we have two teams who are each searching for their first win of the 2015 season. The St. Francis Terriers and Fordham Rams have both began the year at (0-3), and one team will get in the win column after this New York City encounter.

In the Terriers most recent outing we saw them lose in three straight sets against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks by the scores of 25-13, 25-13, and 25-18.

In set number one the Terriers were mostly competitive early on, largely trailing by 3-6 points before NAU capitalized on a 18-12 lead to dominate the rest of the way.

In the second set the Lumberjacks started off hot, marching out to a 10-1 lead and never looking back. They controlled the set from wire-to-wire and went out to a 2-0 game lead.

In the third and what would be the final set the Terriers were off to their best start. At one point they led 4-1, and maintained this lead up until they were ahead 10-6 before NAU began to close the gap.

NAU eventually fought their way to a 13-12 advantage and held the lead the rest of the way, but the Terriers remained in sight and fought until the finish before going down 25-18.

In this game, senior middle hitter Leah Zitting led the team with seven kills, followed by junior hitter Gabrielle Herrera who added five kills.

Freshman setter Angela Hudelson led the team with eight assists in the game, and senior setter Kelly O’Halloran recorded seven assists.

Freshman libero Mireya Ramirez added 10 digs in the game which also led the team.

The Rams will be at home for the first time this season and are making their return from an (0-3) showing at the FGCU Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites Classic.

In their last game the Rams fell short in four sets against the New Orleans Privateers in what was a very competitive showing.

The Rams lost the first set 27-25 before rebounding nicely to even up the game by winning the second set 25-22.

They then went on to lose the game’s final two sets by the scores of 25-19 and 25-18 respectively.

Freshman outside hitter Natalie Martinez was a Ram standout by recording a team-high 13 kills in the game. She was followed by fellow freshman outside hitter Breanna Jones and senior outside hitter Brianna O’Neill who finished with nine kills each.

Another Ram notable from their previous game was sophomore setter Emily Fronk who recorded a team leading 28 assists along with 14 digs.

Both teams’ seeking their first taste of victory in 2015 will clash on Wednesday, September 2 at 7 p.m. at the Rose Hill Gym in the Bronx, New York.
