The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers will go on the road this evening to take on the league leading Central Connecticut State Blue Devils at 7pm on ESPN 3. The Terriers will have the odds stacked against them going up against the top team in the conference.
This meeting comes at the perfect time for the Terriers who are playing some of their best basketball of the season. Over the last three games the Terriers are (2-1), their two victories came against LIU-Brooklyn and Mount St. Mary’s.
On Saturday, the Terriers looked to extended their winning streak to three in a row, but failed to do so losing to Wagner College (63-60). Despite falling short the Terriers continued their high level of competitive play.
Senior forward Sarah Benedetti continued to demonstrate her scoring prowess tying her career-high in points with 28. Over the three-game stretch the senior forward is averaging 21.7 points per game leading the team.
Tonight’s meeting will be the second and final meeting of the regular season. On January 26, the Terriers fell (51-49) to the Blue Devils. The game was a highly intense matchup that featured a pair of teams who preach defense. The end result could have gone either way, but the Blue Devils were able to come out with a big-time victory over a conference foe.
The Blue Devils come into the game with a record of (14-8, 10-1 NEC). If the Terriers could knock the Blue Devils off tonight, it would be a much-needed victory as they approach the end of their regular season. A win over the first place team would certainly give this team the confidence boost needed headed into the postseason.
Something to watch out for is senior guard Eilidh Simpson who is nearing 1,000 career points. Simpson is currently sitting at 971 career points, and it’s only a matter of time now before the Australian native embarks on the milestone.
