The Troupers of St. Francis College are now performing their Fall 2019 “The House of Blue Leaves” by John Guare.
Starring Matthew Perez as Artie, Julie Munoz as Bananas, Brandon Peterson as Ronnie, Normandy Williams as Corrina, and Brandon Nocera as Billy.
“The play had a lot of twists and turns and a lot of things that we didn’t expect but it was overall, both acts were great and the cast was great. And there is a big surprise ending,” said Ashyln Doyle, an attendee of the play.
Set in 1965, the play takes place on the day Pope Paul VI visited New York. The play highlights the dramatic and life of Artie Shaughnessy who is desperately trying to escape his schizophrenic wife and start a new chapter with neighbor, Bunny Flingus.
Every semester, the Troupers of SFC, put on a new play and they take pride in putting on the best play possible. “Before I joined the Troupers in April of 2018, there were four people, and now we currently have our bestest cast of students. The whole group has been working very hard and putting unless amount of hours into the play,” said assistant director, Jenny Sellitto.
Previously, the plays that the Troupers have put on at SFC were more modern, whereas they were more relatable to the students. And so, the hardest part was making the play interesting and engaging for a play that was set in the 1960s.
“This play is such a step up in the right direction for the Troupers and we put in so much hard work into each performance… We’re a family,” said Co-President, Julie Munoz.
The next dates are Friday, November 22nd at 7:00PM and Saturday, November 23rd, at 2:00PM and 7:00PM in the Maroney Theatre. General Admission tickets are $10, however, SFC students pay $5.
“The House of Blue Leaves,” “will keep you on the edge of your seat,” said attendee, AnnaMaria Leal.
