The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers women’s volleyball team was defeated by the Siena College Saints in Blacksburg, Virginia 3-2 today, in their five-set season opener in which they fell behind after winning two consecutive sets.

The Terriers won the first two sets by the scores of 25-23 and 25-20 respectively before losing the last three sets 20-25, 27-29 and 8-15 respectively.

The Terriers finished their previous season 7-23 (4-10 NEC), while their opponent closed out the season 16-13 (12-6 MAAC).

The Saints led with 51 kills, 72 digs, 44 assists and six blocks. The Terriers put forth 47 kills, 63 digs, 45 assists and ten blocks.

Terriers senior outside hitter Domenique Gerard led her team hitting 19.1 percent en route to 18 points, 16 kills and14 digs. Senior middle hitter Neihely Sosa hit 15.2 percent and recorded 12 kills.

Senior outside hitter Milica Mladjenovic hit 8.7 percent, recording seven kills, ten digs and one assist. Sophomore setter Angla Hudelson hit 20 percent en route to seven kills, seven digs and 41 assists.

Freshman middle blocker Sidney Benson recorded two kills and two assists in the first match of her college career.

Saints senior right front Sonja Vasovic led her team hitting 11.1 percent en route to 16 points, 12 kills and1 dig. Redshirt freshman hitter Julia Burzynski scored 12.5 points, recording 12 kills, one dig and one assist.

Senior outside hitter Briana Flagg hit 7 percent, recording 11 kills and 20 digs.

The next stop for the Terriers is Radford, Virginia, where they will face the Norfolk State University Spartans at 7:30 pm to close out today’s doubleheader.
