The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers women’s volleyball team defeated the Delaware State University Hornets 3-1 on Tuesday night.
The Hornets won the first set 25-21 before the Terriers went on to win three consecutive sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-20 respectively.
The Terriers have improved to (5-11) and the Hornets have fallen to (0-12).
After suffering a six-game losing streak, the Terriers defeated the Lafayette College Leopards and fell to the NJIT Highlanders on Saturday.
The Terriers are now likely to have a more successful season this year, as they are performing much better than they were at this time last season. The women closed out the 2015 season (7-23).
The Terriers hit 13.1 percent en route to 44 kills, 45 digs and 41 assists, while suffering 28 attack errors, 11 service errors and three ball handling errors.
The Hornets hit 6.8 percent, putting forth 36 kills, 43 digs and 36 assists. They suffered 28 attack errors, 10 service errors and one ball handling error.
Terriers senior outside hitter Domenique Gerard hit 32 percent en route to 11 kills, 10 digs and two assists. Senior outside hitter Gabrielle Herrera hit 7.1 percent, recording nine kills and two digs. Junior outside hitter Aleksandra Gligoric hit 4.2 percent, accumulating 8 kills and three digs.
Freshmen setter Macy Kurtz recorded 18 assists for the Terriers and sophomore setter Angela Hudelson recorded 15.
Hornets freshmen outside hitter Sydney Armbrister hit 3.4 percent en route to nine kills and nine digs. Junior outside hitter Sabina Szmajduch recorded nine kills and six digs.
The Terriers will return home for their next match, hosting the Sacred Heart University Pioneers Saturday at 1 pm.
