There are many affordable options available for students looking to travel this summer.

There is officially less than one month until the conclusion of another school year. With temperatures slowly rising, many SFC students have started dreaming about being on a beach somewhere far away from the chaos known as New York City.

Unfortunately for college students, the ideal trip may not be possible with a limited budget. Many airlines raise their prices at the conclusion of the school year since it is the most popular time to travel. After doing much research, I have found the six best places to travel to that will not break your bank!

San Juan, Puerto Rico is one of the top places for college students to travel due to its beautiful scenery and affordable prices. On average, roundtrip tickets to San Juan cost about $334 with, and the average hotel costs $109 per night. It is better to purchase food from a market and cook it in your hotel instead of eating out every day (this will save you more money for attractions). Some attractions include the blue waters of Flamenco Beach and the white sand of Sun Bay. If you are looking for adventure, you can hike through El Yunque National Rainforest and admire its hidden waterfalls.

Charlotte, North Carolina is mid-way down the east coast, making it an easy travel destination for New Yorkers who need an easy getaway. If you are interested in driving, the trip only takes nine hours which will fly by as you view the amazing scenery on the road down. Flights from NYC to Charlotte come in at a cost of around $157. The average hotel stay during the summertime in Charlotte is $67 a night. For those interested in racing, Charlotte is a perfect destination to see the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Other attractions include the Carolinas Aviation Museum, The Bank of America Stadium and The Billy Graham Library.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is just a tad further south than Charlotte, but it is just as beautiful. Myrtle Beach is known for its white sand beaches and friendly folks. The two hour plane ride down south goes for around $137 and the drive is about eleven hours south. Myrtle Beach also offers hotels for around $80 a night or $120 a night if you want an ocean-front view. The most popular event in Myrtle Beach is Broadway on the Beach, which is when aspiring actors perform known Broadway shows right on the beach in front of you! Other attractions include the amazing views of the Skywheel, New South Brewery, for those people over 21, and multiple Tanger Outlets for all of your shopping needs.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica is another destination that has crystal clear water. The Blue Hole is the main attraction in Ocho Rios that tourists rave about. A typical flight during thesummer will cost you about $250 and hotels range from $50 to $130 a night. If you are more of an adventure-seeker, there are hundreds of mountains to hike and experience breathtaking views. If you are limited with your time, you can opt for sightseeing tours which cover the whole island. If you want to swim with dolphins, there are many places throughout the island where you can dive into Dolphin Coves.

Yellowstone National Park spreads throughout multiple states including Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. This 3,000 square mile park is a perfect vacation spot for anyone who loves sightseeing and hiking. During the summertime, flights are a little steeper than they are during the rest of the year due to the influx of tourists, but they remain under $200 round trip. The awesome part about this vacation is you do not have to spend any money on a hotel, as long as you bring your own tent. You can camp in many designated areas and it is free to use the bathrooms, laundry and showers. The other amazing thing about this trip is you do not have to stay in one spot the entire trip, you can explore the whole Grand Canyon and other attractions throughout the park.

Nashville, Tennessee is home of the country music stars. If you love country music and want to hear aspiring country singers, Nashville is the perfect place to visit. An average flight costs about $200. If that is too expensive for you, the car ride is only about 13 hours. Gather up a few friends and take a fun summer road trip! There are several clubs and bars which feature mechanical bulls to ride. If you lodge outside of the city, hotel prices drop dramatically and average only about $80 a night. Other fun attractions to visit include Vanderbilt University, Riverfront Park and Tennessee Brew Works!
