A new production of the critically-acclaimed play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will be performed at St. Francis College from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, 2014.
The original Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is a comedy that debuted in 2012, directed by Christopher Durang. It won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play on Broadway, after it first premiered off-Broadway.
Christopher Durang is an actor and a playwright who has directed plays including Beyond Therapy, Baby with the Bathwater, and Betty’s Summer Vacation.
Professor Natasha Yannacañedo and Rachael Hip-Flores will direct this particular production. Yannacañedo has directed plays and independent films such as Love Song at St. Francis College, 29 Questions at the Shell Theater in Times Square, and Reconstructing Julie at the Algonquin Theater in Manhattan.
Rachel Hip-Flores has directed several plays as well, including The Little Dog Laughed at St. Francis College and I Heart Kant and The Winged Man with the Rutgers Theater Company. She is well known for her acting chops in the web series Anyone But Me, and as a Creative Partner with Flux Theatre Ensemble.
The play will feature Javier Rodriguez as Vanya, Nicole Romero as Masha, Kevin Fernandez as Spike, Kejsi Shkreta as Cassandra, Sarah Canny as Nina, and Natasha Yannacañedo as Sonia.
The play will run Friday through Sunday in the Maroney Forum for Arts, Culture & Education in room 7402 at 7:30 pm.
