The 2015 St. Francis Brooklyn Terrier Invitational is ready to begin and the hosting Terriers women’s volleyball team will face the Rider Broncs in an attempt to end the four-game skid in which the ladies from Brooklyn began the season with.

Last time out the Terriers lost in three straight sets to the Fordham Rams by the scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-18.

In the third and final set the Terriers seemed poised to cut into the Rams 2-0 game lead after a strong start.

The Terriers mounted an early edge before trading leads with the Rams in the early going of the set. They were very competitive throughout but just failed to get over the hump against the Rams who were able to hold them off and eventually take the seven point set victory.

Junior outside hitter Domenique Gerard collected eight kills in the game, which tied senior middle hitter Maggie Niu for a team lead.

This proved to be a nice bounce back game for Gerard after not recording one kill in the previous game.

Senior setter Kelly O’Halloran led the team in assists with 15, and junior setter Alexa Caporuscio led the team in digs with six.

The visiting Rider Broncos (2-2) come into Brooklyn after earning a runner-up finish following their showing at season opening UMES Invitational.

Freshman outside hitters Catie Harding and Hailey Riede were standouts for the Broncs in this invitational tournament.

Harding amassed a team high 59 kills for the weekend (3.47 per set), and also recorded 31 digs in the 17 sets she played in.

Riede is also coming off of a productive weekend in which she had 37 kills (2.18 per set) in 17 sets of play.

Both ladies earned all-tournament honors after their respective performances.

The home opener will take place at the Genovesi Center in St. Francis College, and the ladies will set it off on Friday September 4 at noon eastern time.
