Basketball: Today the St. Francis men’s basketball team will be taking on Mount St. Mary’s.

In the Terriers last game they beat the three time defending NEC champions the LIU Blackbirds 78-64. It was the first time in four years the Terriers beat the LIU Blackbirds.

This has been an impressive year for the St. Francis Terriers. Right now the Terriers are 10-6 and are in first place in the NEC conference.

Last years season series was tied between the Terriers and Mount St. Mary’s. Both teams beat each other.

If the Terriers want to win today they will need their key players to keep playing well.

Senior guard Ben Mockford scored a carreer high 30 points last game against LIU Brooklyn. He was 8 for 14 from behind the arc.

When Ben played Mount St. Mary’s last time he scored 29 points and was 6 for 9 behind the three point line.

Ben wasn’t the only star player thursday night. Junior guard Brent Jones had himeself a great game as well. Brent had 8 points 7 rebounds and a career high 12 assists.

Last game Brent was in total control. He was able to create plays that lead to teammates getting open and nailing shots.

As a team it’s all about the boards. The St. Francis Terriers are averaging 37.1 rebounds per game.

They are 8-0 when they outrebound their opponenet.

As for Mount St. Mary’s s their season has been a disappointing one. The teams defense has been playing awful.

For the season opponents are averaging 83.0 points against them. If people look at the teams schedule they will see why they give up so many points.

Mount St. Mary’s have played some tough opponents like Villanova and Michigan State. Both teams are ranked in the top ten by the Associated Press.

Their record may say 4-10 but they do have some impressive players. Senior guard Julinan Norfleet is averaging 19.9 points per game and 5.9 assists per game.

Julian scored 31 points against Norfolk State. He was shooting 11 for 13 from the field that night.

The Terriers will need to lockdown Julian Norfleet because he scored 25 points when Mount St. Mary’s beat them.

Senior guard Sam Prescott is another key player for Mount St. Mary’s. Sam is averaging 9.3 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game.

The Terriers will need to continue dominating the boards if they want to win this game.
