The SFC Men’s Water Polo Team defeated the Iona Gaels 14-7 in what was a special game for the seven seniors on the team.
It was the last scheduled home game for the Terriers as they pulled out a victory on senior night.
It seemed that scoring came in pairs for the Terriers. But that was not the case for freshman Vuk Vujosevic who scored three goals! This was the freshman’s first career hat trick.
Iona made the match close pulling it to 7-6, but the Terriers pulled away from the Gaels behind goaltender Igor Mladenovic. Mladenovic recorded 17 saves for the team.
At the end of the third period, the Terriers scored three consecutive goals and took a 10-6 lead.
This would be a lead that the Terriers would not relinquish. The team also had four goals in the final period to secure the win.
Three separate players had two goals apiece (Toth, Sasic, Gencic).
With this victory the Terriers pulled to .500 making their record 7-7.
Currently the team is ranked twentieth in the NCAA. The next match for the team is Tuesday against Fordham in the Bronx at 7:30 pm.
Before the victory the seven current seniors were honored in their home pool one last time.
