Rocky Horror Show rocks NYC again

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” Glee version was an incredible performance shown this past weekend at The Chealsea Clearview Cinema in New York, New York.

The final performance will be on Halloween at midnight. This year, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” is celebrating its 35th anniversary. The show is about a newly engaged couple that arrive at the castle of the striking Dr. Frank-N-Futer, played by Tim Curry.

The show featured performers in costumes as they re-enacted the movie while the film played in the background on the big screen. However, it’s not your normal moving-going experience. The audience actively participated throughout the entire show.

The festivities began with a dance party kickoff. The audience dressed up like characters from the movie and danced to America' s Top 40 music. Once seated, the crowd engaged in pre-show hazing of “virgins,” referring to those who have not attended a ‘Rocky Horror’ screening before.

Fourteen lucky audience members were placed on stage and enthusiastically participated in an orgasm imitation contest. “Wow, the dance party was so cool. I’ve never gone to an event like this,” said audience member Carolina Goris.

Soon after, Quinn’s big lips licked her way across the screen and the movie began. Audience members participated by shouting responses to the actions and dialogues in the movie. Brad was called an ‘Asshole’ whenever he introduced himself and when the Criminologist called his name. Janet was called a ‘Slut’ when she was introduced or during the Criminologist’s lines.

The NYC Rocky Horror Picture Show Cast sold prop bags that contain goodies used during the film, but you were also allowed to bring your own.  Some of the most memorable props were the throwing of toast, uncooked rice, water, streams of toilet paper and playing cards.

“It was definitely something different. I wouldn’t recommend it for people who have not seen the movie before. I never seen it and there was too much going on to fully understand. Overall the audience members made it a fun event. I love the active participation,” said audience member Stephanie Mota.

The show is not recommended for an audience under 17 years old or people who are offended by vulgarity. Tickets were priced at $9.00 and should be purchased three days in advance.

NYC could only hope that "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" comes back every year during Halloween because it is definitely a must see!
