Bumpy ride for the MTA

The MTA is used by thousands of people every day. Whether it’s the bus or the train, many workers, students, and tourists use it as an exclusive means of getting where they need to go.

24mta.spanBut has the MTA been the most reliable in recent years? It seems that there have been more and more bumps than smooth rides with the MTA.

One problem is communication; it appears that whenever there is a problem with train service in any given neighborhood, the MTA fails to make it known to majority of its riders. This leaves passengers clueless as to why certain trains aren’t running or why the train is skipping certain stops.

One student said, “I was waiting for my train to come but it didn’t show up for a while. I waited 15 minutes until I found out from another passenger that the train wasn’t working due to a problem before. It’s sad that I found this from a passenger and not an MTA worker. Aren’t they supposed to announce this?

This is true. The MTA is supposed to announce any changes in service to the passengers, informing them that there is there is interrupted service of a certain train or on a particular line. When this is put into practice on a moving train over the loudspeaker, the message  is very unclear and all one can hear is static.

Another problem is delays. Delays seem to happen frequently and the MTA hasn’t done a lot to fix the issue. And this has caused many passengers to be late to wherever they are going.

Students were sometimes late for class not because they woke up late but because of train delays. It’s not fair for students who were right on time were still late for class due to the MTA. It hurts them and not the MTA.

Thirdly, what is the money being spent on? It seems that the MTA is spending some of its money for the wrong reasons. While there are new stations being built, the MTA isn’t using its money to repair old ones.

There are some stations in certain areas that are completely run down. You can see the stations falling apart. It’s looks so bad that people have to wait uncomfortably in the station for the trains.

Some believe that the reason for this is because those stations aren’t “popular” stations, so it isn’t necessary to fix them. But this is unfair to the residents of those areas. Just because the stations aren’t in tourist destinations doesn’t mean the MTA should neglect to fix them. Regular New Yorkers still use them.

I think the MTA should put more time, money and effort into correcting the above stated issues, so that riders can feel as if their money is being put to good use.
