April 1 -- St Francis College is to replace ID cards with a high-tech eye scan system during the summer.
The change is because of two reasons. One is because of the continuous loss of ID cards by students -- a security risk since anybody can find a card and use it.
The bigger reason is because the ID card system is going through its difficulties. Recently, one of the ID card readers malfunctioned and didn't read any ID card.
Views are mixed on the new security system.
Nicole Dragonfly, a third year student at SFC, said: "This is going to cause more problems than solve. If I come to school with blood-shot eyes or even an infection I won't be able to get into school for class."
Security is currently working on a back up plan if the eye scans seem to have a problem reading the students' eyes.
In the meantime security advised students to check their emails around finals week to know what day to come in and get their eyes scanned into the system.
