SFC Today Reporter Monica Richardson recently interviewed New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia and Boston Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.
The interview took place at the Sony Style Store on Madison Avenue in New York City and aired on Channel 7 as the Eyewitness News sports segment.
Sony invited the two players to demonstrate the new PlayStation game MLB the Show ’12. Gonzalez is on the cover of the game, which was released on March 6.
Although the players have not yet mastered the latest game, they were having fun learning how to play. Sabathia and Gonzalez also allowed a few lucky spectators to play the game with them.
MLB the Show has been rated the number one sports video game due to its realistic graphics and real-life game play. Fans of the game created a wish list of features that they wanted to be included in the game. TruBroadcast Presentations was the most requested feature.
This feature has all of the camera angles that are shown on a broadcast of a game for each and every team. It will seem like the player is watching a game on television rather than playing a video game, due to these detailed camera angles. The creators of the game expanded the audio and fixed the bugs of last years game.
Sabathia has been a pitcher for the Yankees since 2009 and is the ace of the team’s rotation. Sabathia has been named to five All-Star teams and won the Cy Young Award in 2007. Gonzalez was traded to the Red Sox from San Diego before the start of the 2011 season and is a four-time All-Star.
Baseball fans know there is a serious rivalry between the Yankees and Red Sox. The Yankees are rated as the best team in the game while the Red Sox are fifth.
“I look forward to Spring Training and bonding with my Yankee brethren,” said Sabathia.
“I am excited about working with newly appointed Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine,” said Gonzalez. The first baseman is focused on putting the 2011 season, which ended with a late collapse by Boston that cost them a spot in the playoffs, behind him and focus on Spring Training.
This year the Red Sox will be heading into camp with a new look and new regime after the team fired longtime manager Terry Francona and general manager Theo Epstein.
Gonzalez said he is “moving into training with an edge on the opposition with a new training device.” His secret is the new Playstation game MLB The Show ’12.
“I get to see how Sabathia gets to pitch to me,” said Gonzalez.
