St. Francis College men’s soccer team hosts Northeast Conference opponent Central Connecticut State University tonight. Both teams meet for the first time this season and CCSU is looking for their revenge. It will be a crucial matchup between the two teams who are battling for position within the conference.
Last season the Terriers shattered the Blue Devil’s dream of advancing to the NEC Championship. The Terriers beat them in Connecticut 2-0 in the first round of the conference tournament.
Unfortunately the Terriers unbeaten streak came to an end after losing 1-0 to St. Francis University. It did not help that they tied 1-1 with Robert Morris earlier this week, leaving the Terriers current record at (6-5-3) and (1-1-1 NEC).
The men’s soccer team is feeling the pressure to make it to the finals as only four games remain in the season. The Terriers have only won one conference match so far. It is crucial that the Terriers pick up a win against CCSU at home tonight if they want to make a run into the postseason.
However the Blue Devils stand at (5-6-2) and (1-1-1 NEC) which is not a far cry behind the Terriers. After their 2-2 tie with Farleigh Dickinson this weekend; the Blue Devils also need to string together a couple a wins if they want to make it into the postseason.
The Terriers are currently tied with the Blue Devils for fourth place in the conference.
Though both teams strive for victory, it will be difficult for the Blue Devils to get past the stellar defense tonight as the Terriers have only conceded three goals in the last nine games. However the Terriers should act on CCSU’s lacking backline as they have conceded 11 goals in their last six games.
Look out for Terrier’s top scorer junior forward John Makaya, and some spectacular saves from junior goalkeeper Jack Binks. As the Blue Devils face the Terriers in Brooklyn Bridge Park tonight at 7 pm.
