Final: The St. Francis Men’s Basketball team survived a close game against the Wagner Seahawks in overtime, 73-72.

Recap: The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers outlasted the Wagner Seahawks in overtime, 73-72, this Saturday evening.

The Terriers came into tonight’s matchup coming off a very solid win over Sacred Heart. They were able to get back on the right track and gain some ground on the rest of the conference.

With tonight’s victory it gives the Terriers a bit of needed momentum going forward. With only 8 games remaining every game is huge, especially since they are battling for a top seed within the conference.

This evening the Terriers got a huge performance from Freshman forward Wayne Martin, who knocked in the game winning layup with twenty-four seconds left in overtime. Martin tied his career-highs with 17 points and nine rebound and set a career high with seven blocks.

Four Terriers completed today’s game in double-digits. Junior forward Jalen Cannon put up the team’s highest total points with 19. Sophomore guard Anthony White scored a total of 11 points and freshman Sheldon Hagigal scored 10.

Tonight Junior guard Brent Jones and Senior guard Ben Mockford went quietly in the win. Jones finished with 3 points and 3 assists on the night. As for Mockford he struggled the entire night to find the stroke. He shot a total of 1 for 11 from the field, only scoring 5 points on the night.

The Wagner Seahawks key players were Senior guard Kenneth Ortiz and Junior guard Jay Harris, scoring 19 and 8 points respectively.

Tonight’s game was a close one, as the Seahawks shot 32.4% from the field, where as the Terriers shot 36.7%. Both teams struggled shooting from the field as neither seemed to find their groove at any point during the game.

The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers are now 7-1 at home this season, 14-9 overall, and 5-3 in the NEC.

The Terriers will host St. Francis University on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
