Men’s Basketball: The Terriers look to make it three in a row with a win tonight over the St. Francis U Red Flash, in the teams first meeting of the season.
Tonight the Terriers will square off against the St. Francis U Red Flash, in what will be another highly competitive conference matchup. The Terriers are coming off a huge overtime victory where they knocked off the Wagner Seahawks, 73-72. Every game down the stretch will prove to be crucial as it will affect their playoff seeding due to the fact that there are only conference games remaining.
No game will every be easy especially conference matchups, despite a teams record they are not going to just let a better team walk over them. We saw both Wagner and Sacred Heart throw everything they had at the Terriers, both teams fought from the opening tip to the final buzzer. The Terriers should expect a similar gritty performance tonight from the Red Flash.
The Red Flash come into tonight’s matchup with a (6-15, 4-4 NEC) record. They got off to a miserable start going (2-12) to start the season, once conference play started up they have played much better ball going (4-4) in that eight game span. Despite their record they are a team that will give it their all night in and night out, as a result of their hardnosed play they are currently on a three game winning streak.
This season the Red Flash have be led by Junior forward Earl Brown who has had an excellent season till this point. For the season Brown is averaging 15.6 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. He is a force on the interior, much like Terriers Junior forward Jalen Cannon. This will be an exciting matchup between the stars of both teams, since they have a similar style of play it’ll be fun to see them engage in battle.
Two other players the the Terriers need to watch out for are Freshman guard Malik Harmon and Sophomore guard Ben Millaud-Meunier. Harmon is the teams second leading scorer averaging 9.0 points per game. Milaud-Meunier comes in averaging 8.6 points per game.
The Terriers got a very nice performance from Freshman forward Wayne Martin in their last game. Martin came off the bench to score 17 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and had a career high 7 blocks. This was a very nice performance for Martin who has been quiet of late, so maybe this was what he needed to get going for the remainder of the season.
Junior forward Jalen Cannon will look to put together another great game as he has been so consistent all season long. In their last game Cannon scored 19 points shooting 7-12 from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds. For the season he is averaging 16.3 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game which both lead the team.
The Terriers must get Senior guard Ben Mockford going tonight, Mockford shot 1-11 from the field in the teams last game only scoring 5 points. He is a lights out shooter who just needs to keep shooting to get out of the little funk that his is in. Look for Mockford to get going early in this one as he looks to get back on the right track.
Tonight’s game is shaping up to be a good one, both teams have a lot to play for as they are fighting for position in the NEC. With a win tonight the Terriers can possible pull to just one game behind Robert Morris who plays LIU Brooklyn this evening.
