Thursday afternoon inside the Pope Physical Education Center, the St. Francis Brooklyn Men’s Basketball Team (9-10, 3-4) defeated the second-ranked team of the NEC conference, the Robert Morris Colonials (9-11, 5-2) by a score of 78-57. The Terriers are currently ranked seventh in the Conference with Merrimack ranking first. They must win all their remaining games to make the playoffs.
Beginning the contest on a 10-3 run, the Terriers took an early lead. Later, on a 6-0 run, they extended their lead to double-digits, 29-16. They went on to take the first half with a 41- 25 lead.
Coming out from the locker room, the Colonials on a 9-3 run launched their attack. Struggling to keep the Terriers within a single figure lead, the Colonials went on multiple short runs however it was not enough to stop the Men on a Mission. At 1:42, the Terriers recorded their largest lead of the contest with a free-throw from junior guard Chauncey Hawkins, 78-53. They took the contest 78-57.
Top performers from the Colonials were AJ Bramah, Dante Treacy, Josh Williams, Yannis Mendy, and Jon Williams.
Junior guard/forward AJ Bramah led his team with 19 points in 33 minutes. He grabbed eight rebounds, assisted in three baskets, recorded one steal, and landed three of six free-throws.
Sophomore guard Dante Treacy finished with 13 points in 30 minutes. He also finished with two rebounds, and three assists.
Redshirt senior guard Josh Williams finished with 10 points in 32 minutes. He grabbed two rebounds, assisted in one basket, and scored two of four attempted three-pointers.
Senior forward Yannis Mendy and junior guard Jon Williams finished with a combined nine points. Mendy finished with seven points, and seven rebounds in 26 minutes. Williams finished with two points, two rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 29 minutes of play.
For the Terriers, top performers were Chauncey Hawkins, Deniz Celen, Unique McLean, Rob Higgins, and Stevan Krtinic.
Junior guard Chauncey Hawkins and Senior forward Deniz Celen led their team with 15 points. Hawkins finished with 15 points, four rebounds, five assists, three steals, and landed two perfect shots at the free-throw line in 35 minutes. Celen finished with 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists in 31 minutes.
Graduate guard Unique McLean finished with a double-double in 29 minutes. He recorded 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists.
Freshman guard Rob Higgins finished with 12 points in 30 minutes.
Sophomore guard Stevan Krtinic finished with 11 points in 34 minutes. He grabbed four rebounds, assisted in four baskets, landed three perfect free-throws, and scored two of three attempted three-pointers.
The Terriers will be back in action on Saturday, January 25, as they host the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash (fifth in conference) at the Pope Physical Education Center, Brooklyn Heights, NY. Game tips off at 4 p.m.
