Fulton Street Mall, one of Brooklyn’ s most successful shopping areas, is in the midst of a major transformation.
The area that attracts 100,000 shoppers a day has made room for some major retail stores.
Shane Kavanagh the spokes person for Downtown Brooklyn Partnership said there will be new stores moving into Fulton Street Mall.
Stores include H&M, Armani Exchange, Century 21, and other well know retail stores that are already under construction. Kavanagh said, “The goal is to attract more retailers, bring in more shoppers, and contribute to the 24/7 environment.”
Some St. Francis students are very pleased with the new changes of the area.
Senior, Paul Hudak said, “Fulton Mall has always been an ecstatically, pleasing and inviting place and since new stores are opening up it can provide more jobs for people.”
Senior, Danielle Adone said, “Fulton Mall is in a beautiful neighborhood and now with the addition of The Barclays Center, the mall is improving and has become more like a new Manhattan.”
Kavanagh has heard much talk of Downtown Brooklyn being referred to as “The New Manhattan.” He said, “Downtown Brooklyn is its own place that’s not trying to be compared to Manhattan because it has a unique flavor, energy and vibe than anywhere else and we don’t want to change that.”
Since Fulton Street Mall is located among many colleges the area certainly does attract many students.
Therefore, some stores do offer student discounts.
Students can show their student I.D to each store with the possibility of receiving a student discount.
Students can also go to http://www.downtownbrooklyn.com for regular promotions and discounts.
