Brooklyn's Bleacher Creature

Written by Adam Bernstein on . Posted in Features

The past eight months I've experienced has been a complete whirlwind, and I can owe it all to working for Bleacher Report.

Adam BernsteinWhen I shook the Production Manager's hand I had no idea what I was about to encounter.

Bleacher Report as a web-site has been around since 2007. Their calling card has been a sports web-site by sport fans, meaning anyone can write articles and post them on the web-site. After some growth, they were able to open a video production office in 2012.

Since I started working for the Bleacher Report, major changes have been in place. Bleacher Report has joined the Turner Broadcasting family, which has resulted in major growth as well as greater opportunities.

The Bleacher Report app "Team Stream" can now be seen advertised on TNT's NBA broadcasts and now our crew has the ability to gain media credentials along with ESPN and major New York newspapers.

I was hired in July as a production assistant for Bleacher Report Video Productions. I expected for small office tasks and to be play a very small role.

After one week, I was already on my first shoot, setting up lights and filming B Roll. After that day I realized in this business things move quickly.

I started out conducting research for producers, and finding photos for editors to use in the videos. After a month, I found myself running the B Camera at shoots, a complete thrill for me.

Now I've been running Main Camera on shoots on my own, along with being responsible for media packages to send to Turner Sports for segments to be shown on CNN.

I am now the senior production assistant, with hopes to say on full time after graduating this May. Since I've started I have attended numerous NBA teams' practices including the Knicks, covered numerous events while meeting celebrities such as model Brooklyn Decker, former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber, former MLB manager Bobby Valentine, Brooklyn Nets forward Kris Humphries, Emmitt Smith, the NFL's all-time leader in rushing yards, and others.

I've followed and loved sports as long as I remember, with my education in film production this job seems to be a match made in heaven.
