SFC’s favourite priest is leaving the college at the end of this fall semester.
In an email sent out to faculty and staff, Father Brian said that he has enjoyed serving at St. Francis for the past six years.
He said the college has a “gracious student body, wonderful faculty and dedicated administration and staff”
“It has been a joy and honor to serve here,” Father Brian wrote.
Father Brian was approached by the NYPD and his own Franciscan Friars of holy Name Province to consider serving in other meaningful ministries.
“First, the New York City Police Department has asked me to work with them with neighborhood coordination efforts in Midtown Manhattan.
“It is an exciting new adventure of community policing.
“Second, the Franciscans have asked me to return to St. Francis of Assisi Church by Penn Station in Manhattan, to coordinate special projects that serve the poor and the marginalized.
“After a careful period of reflection, I have accepted these generous offers. Therefore, I will complete my full time ministry at SFC as of December 31, 2018.”
Nevertheless, Father Brian said he still desires a living connection to St. Francis College.
“I will be part of the life of SFC although on a reduced level of participation,” he wrote.
“May the Blessings of St. Francis and St. Clare be with you always!”
