Basketball: St Francis College men beat the Delaware Hornets 60-57, pushing their win streak to 4 in a row.
Final- The Terriers ninth win of the season wasn’t an easy one but it was a great challenge for them. The team played smart in the second half.
After having a great first half, Junior forward Jalen Cannon had an even better second half. Cannon finished with his 2nd double-double of the season — he had 17pts and 12 rebounds.
Cannon was 9-9 from the free throw lines.
It was a great seeing Senior guard Ben Mockford shooting well this game. He had a strong second half, finishing the game with 17pts and shot 5-9 from beyond the arc.
Another key player in this game was Terriers Junior guard Brent Jones. Jones did a great job finding guys open and he finished with seven assists.
Even though they lost, The Hornets had three men that finished in double digits. Junior center Kendall Gary was able to put up a double-double — he had 13 rebounds and 13 points
Junior point guard Kendal Williams played well in the first half finishing with 9pts. He struggled in the second half, getting only 4pts while shooting 1-5 from the field.
In the end what really hurt the Hornets was their poor free throw shooting, they were 14-22 from the free throw line.
Both teams played well — there were at least six lead changes throught out the second half. The Hornets had a five point lead in the second half with six mintues left.
After fininshing the first half with eight turnovers, the Terriers managed to turn the ball over only 3 times in the second half.
The Terriers next game is on the road this coming Saturday at 4pm and they will play Columbia University, who are 7-6 this season. The game will played at the Levien Gymnasium.
Halftime- The Terriers and Delaware State are tied 25-25 after the 1st half.
The Terrriers will need to get their offense going if they want this win. The team is 2-12 from behind the three point line. Terriers turned the ball over 8 times in the first half.
There are some bright spots for the Terriers. Junior forward Jalen Cannon has 9pts and 7rebs. He shooting 5-5 behind the free throw line.
Delaware State has played well so far. Junior point guard Kendal Williams has 9pts.
But is the Hornets 6’10 center Kendall Gary who has played great defense. He has 8 rebs and 2 blocks.
The Terriers are known for having a slow first half. They need to hit some three’s and grab some offensive rebounds if they want to win this one.
Preview- The Terriers look to end 2013 on a positvie note by capturing their fourth win in a row.
They will be playing the Delaware Hornets who are 2-9 this season.
The Terriers are coming off a strong defensive performance as they beat the N.J.I.T. Higlanders last week 77-65. These Terriers will try to get their season high four wins in a row.
Some players to watch for the Terriers are Sophomore forward Amdy Fall who played great defense last game and had a season high five blocks
Another player to watch out for is Senior guard Ben Mockford. He played for the first time last week after missing the previous two games with back spasms.
Ben Mockford played well last game putting up 9 points in 19 minutes of play. With a week off Ben should be well rested and nothing should slow him down.
Delaware State comes into today’s game riding a four game losing streak. They lost their last game 75-43 to Oklahoma State, who is ranked number 12 overall in the country.
Some key players to look out for on Delaware State is Junior center Kendall Gray. The 6 foot 10 center has a total of 26 blocks this season, Gray has 10 games with 5 or more blocks. Gray is also averages 5.6 rpgs.
Another key player for the Hornets is Junior forward Tyshawn Bell who is averaging 10.6ppg and a total of 15 steals this season.
The Terrier will need to take smart shots to avoid getting blocked on the their fourth win a row.
