SFC Today understands that Brent Jones and Wayne Martin, two of several of the men’s basketball squad suspended last week by St Francis College, may return to action against LIU Brooklyn on Sunday at Barclays Center.
The suspensions have threatened to derail what has been one of the best seasons in many years for the men’s basketball team.
Following the suspensions on Saturday February 8 for alleged violation of SFC policies, St Francis suffered a heavy defeat at home to NEC leaders Robert Morris, with almost half of the SFC bench missing.
If Jones and Martin are back and fit to play, it may give SFC at least some hope of resurrecting a good campaign.
SFC men currently stand joint third in the NEC despite the turmoil that has surrounded the team in the last week or so.
The last meeting between SFC and LIU Brooklyn was only a few weeks ago at St Francis College, when SFC won with a convincing 78-64 score.
On that night, senior guard Ben Mockford scored a career-high 30 points and junior forward Jalen Cannon added 19 points and a season-high 14 rebounds in the NEC opener for both teams.
This time, though, SFC’s preparations have been badly hampered by the suspensions and it remains to be seen whether the depleted SFC squad has the strength in depth to notch another famous win versus big rival LIU Brooklyn.
The game starts at 4pm and is being shown on MSG Network and FOX College Sports.
