Applications for the Duns Scotus society are now available for qualifying students at St. Francis College.
The Duns Scotus Society at SFC is the honors society open to full time Juniors and Seniors who have proved exceptional merit in academics and extracurriculars, as well as strength of character and dedication to service.
“It is the primary aim of Dun Scotus to encourage in the students of St. Francis College a love and desire for excellence in scholarship and service to all the undergraduate activities of the College. In order to accomplish this purpose, honor and recognition are given to those who, by their scholarship and service to the ideals of the College, have won the respect and esteem of their fellow students, the members of the Administration and the Faculty. In this way, students of exceptional ability, character and diligence will have the opportunity to strive for excellence, that they might experience the joy that all feel when singular honor and reward are given to their efforts and be inspired to live up to the ideals of their patrons, St Francis of Assisi and Blessed John Duns Scotus.”
Requirements for the society include a cumulative GPA of at least 3.70 after the conclusion of the fall semester, a completion of 60 credits and a minimum of two years of residence, and active participation in, at least two extracurricular activities.
Participation in a club must be such that the moderator may offer a recommendation of the applicant with knowledge of their significant participation in the club.
The applicant must also be nominated by their Department chairperson.
Applications are available in the Office of Student Activities. All forms must be completed and returned by Friday, December 6, 2013.
