It was a close game between the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers and the Saint Peters Peacocks earlier this evening as the Terriers were edged by the Peacocks 59-67 at the Yanitelli Center, Jersey City, NJ.
The contest began with the Terriers leading 4-0 but the Peacocks responded with a subtle comeback as they both went head-to-head. The Peacocks went on an 8-3 run to take the lead at halftime 28-33.
With the Terriers trailing behind, the made numerous efforts at a comeback. In the eighth minute, Jordan Williams made a three-point shot off the assist of Yaradyah Evans, followed by a good free-throw by Unique McLean and a good jumper shot by Chauncey Hawkins to reduce the Peacocks nine-point lead a five-point lead. Also, with five minutes and 27 seconds on the clock, Hawkins, on a Fastbreak, scored a three-point shot, Deniz Celen and Rob Higgins followed with a combined five points to bringing the Peacock to a one-point lead, 51-52. However, the Peacocks edged the Terriers with a 7-0 run to take the game 59-67.
Freshman guard, Dough Edert led the Peacocks to victory with a high of 18 points in 27 minutes. He grabbed four rebounds and landed a perfect four shots at the free-throw line.
Freshman guard, Daryl Banks III finished with nine points and four rebounds in 20 minutes of play. He also assisted in two baskets and landed two perfects shots at the free-throw line.
His teammates, freshman guard Matthew Lee and sophomore forward, KC Ndefo both tallied seven points within 18 minutes. Ndefo also recorded six rebounds.
Senior forward, Deniz Celen led the Terriers with a high of 21 points and seven rebounds. He also shot three three-point shots of his three attempts and landed four perfect baskets at the free-throw line. He did all this within 30 minutes.
Junior guard, Chauncey Hawkins recorded 13 points, grabbed three rebounds and assisted in two baskets in his 36 minutes of play.
Graduate guard, Unique McLean and junior forward, Yaradyah Evans scored a combined seven points. McLean finished with five points and rebounded five balls and assisted in two baskets in 32 minutes of play. Evans scored two points and finished with a team-high of eight rebounds in 28 minutes. He also assisted in two baskets.
The Terriers will be back in action on Thursday, December 5, as they face the Hartford Hawks. The game tips off at 7 p.m. and will be held at West Hartford, CT.
